Lapiluv Play Apron: Mixing Technology with Attachable Toys

Created by a mom who understands the trials and tribulations of keeping your baby entertained, lapiluv is the perfect solution for on the go fun, or even just spending time together at home. Neat and original in concept, well executed, and opening up a wide range of possibilities, the lapiluv is bound to become a favorite accessory for parents of young ones everywhere.

Top to Bottom-What Is the Lapiluv?

The lapiluv is a jean apron, equipped from top to bottom with loops of secure fabric, two large pockets for holding extra toys/stuff in, and a holder in the center for an iPhone/ smart phone. The loops are to secure various toys to with the strong sturdy clips that come with the lapiluv. The apron can be reversed as well so that an iPad can be placed inside of it and baby can play with the apps while the iPad is safely attached to a parent.

lapiluv

Several toys come with the lapiluv, but you are far from limited to them. Attach any toy your baby loves, or use the ones included. The included toys have some sort of developmental/tactile bonus to them. A few are crinkly, one has a mirror inside, while still another even vibrates. Everything is designed to be quick and easy to attach/detach.

The whole idea behind the iPad/iPhone holders is fairly straightforward, and yet almost exotic. While it seems apps have been used to entertain children for as long as they have been around, the lapiluv is one of the only products we’ve seen that actually includes a built in carrier for one while still having the option for other toys to be included.

lapiluv review

Uses

There are a number of exceptionally handy uses for the lapiluv. The first one that comes to my mind is on the go. Whether you’re on an airplane, or waiting in public somewhere, the lapiluv is quick, easy way to carry around entertainment. People who aren’t parents might give you some odd looks at first (after all you are donning an apron covered in dangly toys), while fellow parents will probably think “how clever!” Passing kids will most likely think you’re the coolest parent ever if you’re literally covered in toys.

Then there is also playtime at home, and just simple bonding time with your child. We all know how they like to interact with us, and the lapiluv does an extraordinary job of playing off of that fondness.

This is barely scratching the surface on the different ways this product can be used though-I am sure every parent will be able to come up with some unique way in which it can entertain their child.

The Inspiration

The creator was inspired while holding her young son. He started to get very interested in playing with her necklace, which then sparked the idea to create a product that would allow a baby to sit on their parents lap and play ‘with them.’

Luv It!

This is such a neat idea. I just can’t get over it. The apron is well made, and it comes with pretty all the tools that you could possibly need to keep your little one entertained. On top of that, it’s also extremely well organized, so you don’t end up with a completely scattered mess of toys. For any parent with a lap loving infant, I would encourage you to check out the lapiluv.

COLOR MONSTER

Help your little one learn their colors with this delightful new app by Wombi

Price $1.99

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and

iPad. Requires iOS 3.1 or later.  Seller: Wombi

Why we like it:

Color Monster is a kid friendly, touch and drag app designed for children ages 2 and above. The little monster is hungry for colorful food and it is up to your little one to feed him. He will not only announce what color he is hungry for, but he will also change his skin to match. Be warned, this monster is picky and will refuse to eat anything that is not the right color.

My toddler and I love everything about this app. We both find the little monster extremely amusing, my daughter loves how he looks and changes colors and I love his voice. I also love the educational value of this entertaining app. Not only does Color Monster teach youngsters about colors, but your little one can also learn the names of the colors in up to ten different languages. The languages featured are: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese. Color Monster- learn the colors is a very straightforward and simple app that will have your kids laughing as they learn their colors.

Shape-O! ABC’s is a sweet, calming educational app that lets toddlers and preschoolers get their jigsaw puzzle fix (drag-and-drop style) with everything from owls and mice to burgers and robots.

Also? There are letters to be dragged and dropped too for a little sneaky reading practice. F-O-X.

Spot the Dot

Why we like it:

This is a very polished, visually pleasing app with intuitive navigation. Clues are easy to come by, and kids can change the entire color scheme of a puzzle by tapping the rainbow icon. We also like the “congratulations” graphics. And with over a hundred puzzles, your kids can play this app all the way to Tokyo.

All in all, a perfect app for the pre-reading crowd.

Spot the Dot

A mesmerizing color-learning app with lots of interactivity

Grade: A- | Age rating: 1+ | Price:$3.99

Spot the Dot is a perfectly executed and very visually appealing app that teaches toddlers colors and fine motor skills.

It was designed by children’s author David A. Carter (who wrote the best-selling pop-up book How Many Bugs in a Box) and it shows.

Spot the Dot

Why we like it:

This app will provide about 10-15 minutes of quiet, stimulating play to the average preschooler or toddler. It can be played over and over too, because the sneaky dot changes hiding places.

Each activity is different, but clearly explained which means kids won’t need to be able to read to play. They may need an adult helping however, because there are no prompts if they forget what they’re looking for or don’t quite understand the challenge.

SketchMoo2

A super-simple drawing app for the youngest artists

Grade: B+| Age rating: 1+| Price: $0.99

SketchMoo2 has just proven something that I always suspected about drawing apps: they don’t have to be complicated to be fun.

I’ve always been bewildered by the array of color, tool, and background choices that seem to come standard on all art apps. I guess I’m not the only one.

What We Liked:

Just like the classic sand-filled etching toys of your youth, this one is dead simple to use. Draw with your finger. Erase with the sliding bar. Repeat. There are no options to confuse young artists, and in this case, that’s a good thing.

Even older kids will like playing Tic Tac Toe and Dots and Boxes while waiting for restaurant meals, doctor’s appointments, and airplanes.

The Monster at the End of This Book

A beloved classic that’s laugh out loud funny over and over again

Grade: A | Age rating: 1+ | Price: $3.99

The Monster at the End of This Book is everything a kids’ book app should be: funny, interactive, and very well designed.

Your kids aren’t going to notice any of that though, as they push a nervous Grover closer and closer to the dreaded end of the book by untying knots, prying off boards, and knocking down brick walls.

What We Liked:

At 9 and 11, my kids can be very scathing about “apps for babies”. My pleas to consider that these sweet apps are really very appealing to toddlers and preschoolers fall on mostly deaf ears. No ninjas? No thanks. This app was the exception — they loved it.

Prompts on every page encourage very young kids to keep moving forward and there’s an auto-play mode too. And humor? Try this: Grover sounds out the title page very carefully, and then says, “This is a very dull page. What is on the next page?”

Pure Sesame Street goodness.
